Vacancy Studies published |

Many bunkers, forts, churches, castles, hospitals, water towers, post offices, prisons, palaces, and airports are empty. The book Vacancy Studies provides the architecture and design world with an optimistic perspective on the temporary reuse of vacant spaces. It shows how designers can significantly contribute to this social issue through ‘strategic interventions’ which make new ways of thinking and experimenting possible.

The graduation projects of KNOL’s Celine and Jorien are elaborately featured in this book, as they were part of the master Vacant NL at the Sandberg Institute – a master program dedicated to the temporary use of vacant buildings. The book Vacancy Studies is written by the heads of the master program as a result of their years of study and design work in the field of vacancy. The master was an important part of this. See RAAAF for more of their projects.
